This campaign follows a fictional RAF squadron during the course of an eleven day struggle involving a strong counter attack by German forces in the period of November 26 to December 7, 1944.
The campaign is linear and non-branching so even if you 'win' or 'lose' the next mission will proceed (I havent quite got the hang of the branching thing yet). To really get the most out of the 'story' I would recommend strongly trying to fly the missions to completion (try to complete the mission objectives)...some things aren't triggered to happen until near the end of the mission (though they may not be directly related to the mission). All missions start on the ground. Some missions have random elements in them, so if you refly one it may unfold slightly different the next time.
Why the RAF? Well, I love the Spit first of all. Some have complained that the Jane's Spit is a dog to fly. At first, I agreed. But after spending some time flying it, I found it to be no better or worse than any of the other aircraft in the game. If you keep the speed up, the Spit is actually a darn good aircraft to dogfight in.
Another reason why I chose the Spit is because it is a more challenging aircraft to fly in gound attack roles simply because it just doesn't carry a lot of ammo. Therefore you must be a little extra careful in ground-pounding while flying the Spit. Also, no rockets can be mounted either so you must rely on strafing and bombs.
Finally, I just felt that the RAF wasn't given it's fair shake in the game (only ONE RAF plane? What about the Typhoon or Tempest?) At any rate, I felt that a full blown Spit campaign would be a nice change from all the American and German ones.
